Solo Competition
All members of the Hannaford Youth Band are invited to enter the Rising Stars Solo Competition.
What to play:
Contestants must prepare an instrumental solo for a brass or percussion instrument. The solo must have BOTH a brass band AND piano accompaniment. Suggested length of solo – up to 5 minutes.
Please note, the solo is the contestant’s own choice, however the brass band parts must be available – please take this into consideration when choosing repertoire.
Format:
The first round of this competition will take place on Sat. November 26, 2022 in person - Walter Hall, Faculty of Music, University of Toronto. Solos should be performed with piano accompaniment. Three finalists will be chosen.
Prizes:
The winner will be the recipient of the coveted Rising Stars Trophy as well as have their name engraved on the Hannaford Youth Rising Stars Plaque FOR ALL TIME!!!
The winner will perform their solo in concert with the HSSB accompanying and receive a recording of their performance.
